FlowJo License Options and Information

FlowJo, LLC offers 3 different licensing options for our desktop application, FlowJo. See below:

  1. Dongle – A transportable USB license option that can be shared by multiple users on multiple computers, one user at a time. This is a perpetual “offline” license option that will allow access to FlowJo versions 7.6.5, 8.8.7, 9.9.6 and the version 10 series. The dongle option will not allow access to future versions of FlowJo, i.e. FlowJo Version 11 which is slated for release in 2024. For more information on dongle licensing, click here.
  2. Serial Number – This is an annual “offline” single computer licensing option. FlowJo users can run FlowJo on a single-computer that is tethered to FlowJo by way of Hardware Address. This license type is not transportable and users can share time running FlowJo on a single computer with this license type.
  3. FlowJo Portal – FlowJo Portal is FlowJo’s newest license offering and it is user-based, which means that users create FlowJo Portal accounts and then sign in to FlowJo (desktop application) with their FlowJo Portal account(s) (username/password). FlowJo Portal is a web based license service that authenticates licensing for the FlowJo desktop application. FlowJo Portal’s URL is cloud.flowjo.com and this is where users can create their FlowJo Portal account. Account creation is free, but users won’t be able to access FlowJo until they have a trial or paid license associated with their FlowJo Portal account. FlowJo sells individual and group license options for this license type. FlowJo Portal requires that users have a reliable internet connection to access FlowJo via their FlowJo Portal account/license. For more information about FlowJo Portal Licensing, click here.

Which license type should I choose?

When choosing a license type, we recommend considering how many users you have and if those users need access to FlowJo simultaneously. You should also consider how many users would like to run FlowJo on their own computer(s). Lastly, FlowJo Portal is the future of FlowJo licensing and newer versions of FlowJo will only be accessible with a FlowJo Portal license, so please keep this in mind while you investigate out licensing options.

Use Case 1 – We are 1-4 users who would like to run FlowJo simultaneously on our own computers – FlowJo recommends our Individual User FlowJo Portal licensing option. Each user will be able to run FlowJo on up to 4 computers of their choosing, one computer at a time. Each user will also have the ability to replace 4 of their computers annually if those computers fail or are upgraded. Each user who needs access to FlowJo will need to purchase their own FlowJo Portal Individual User license. It is against our EULA for users to share their FowJo Portal account with other users.

Use Case 2 – We are 5+ users who would like to run FlowJo simultaneously on our own computers – FlowJo recommends a FlowJo Portal group license. The minimum number of users required for a FlowJo Portal group license is 5 and if pursued, each user will be able to run FlowJo on up to 4 computers of their choosing, one computer at a time. Each user will also have the ability to replace 4 of their computers annually if those computers fail or are upgraded. FlowJo offers bulk discounts for this Group licensing option with discounts being calculated base on the number of users (5 or more) that need access to FlowJo. FlowJo Portal Group Licensing enables an internal user/admin with tools to manage their group of users via their FlowJo Portal account. For more more information on Admin Tools, click here.

Use Case 3 – We are a small lab and only need FlowJo running on a single computer – We recommend FlowJo Portal licensing or an annual serial number based license. FlowJo Portal will allow all users access to FlowJo on the computer with their own FlowJo Portal account, one user at a time. The annual serial number based license will connect a unique serial number to the computer’s hardware address so that users share one single license that is connected to the computer via hardware address. The serial number is pasted into the FlowJo license screen of the computer and users can run FlowJo on the computer without logging in every time.

Use Case 4 – We are a small lab, but we want to run FlowJo on our computers and are willing to share time with the license – The FlowJo dongle might be the best licensing option for your group because it is a transportable USB license. The dongle plugs into a computer’s USB port and FlowJo recognizes the dongle based on a unique license.key file that is loaded onto the dongle.
