Statistics Band

The Statistics band makes it easy to add statistical information about the selected sample to the Workspace. When you select a sample and use one of the functions on this band, FlowJo computes the desired statistic for you and displays it beneath the chosen sample in the workspace.

Add Statistic

Clicking this icon opens up a dialog box which allows the user to add a new statistic to the currently selected sample or subpopulation. After choosing which statistic is to be calculated from a list on the left, the user then defines the parameter, percentile, and/or measure of frequency as required.

Median

Clicking this icon allows you to calculate the median for one or more parameters of the currently selected sample or sample(s). The median is the relative intensity value below which 50% of the events are found; i.e., it is the 50th percentile. In general, the median is a more robust estimator of the central tendency of a population than the mean.

CV

Clicking this icon allows you to calculate the coefficient of variation for one or more parameters of the currently selected sample or sample(s). The Coefficient of Variation is a normalized Standard Deviation. CV = StdDev/Mean. In FlowJo, the CV statistic is displayed in percent (i.e. a CV of 0.15 is displayed as 15). 1/CV is a common way to define the Signal to Noise Ratio.

Frequency Of

Clicking this icon with a subpopulation selected allows the user to calculate the percentage of events (cells) in this gate out of its parent gate (1 level up), grandparent gate (2 levels up), or total (the entire sample). For example, if a sample’s subpopulation contains one quarter of the events in the sample, computing the subpopulation’s Frequency of Total will yield a result of 25%.
